Hello Dear Readers,
It’s been a really long time and what a time it has been, right? The world came to a halt, got quite terrible (BLM by the way) and people stopped travelling in those flying metal tubes that we hate to love. It’s really a first world problem that I’ve not been able to travel and I am sad about it. “Travelling isn’t a personality type” and “people are dying Kim” really spring to mind. So as I sit here in my oversized Stranger Things t-shirt from Primarni and fluffy socks, I thought I’d drop a little update on myself, this blog and truthfully, what happened to me.
As you all know, consistency and discipline are not my strong point. Especially as TikTok exists. I can only apologise for the lack of updates on this blog. It is my baby and still continues to be, but currently it’s sort of like a baby that won’t stop crying and I’ve handed it over to my Aunt.
Jokes aside, I’ve been lacking motivation, inspiration and love since the lockdown began, but I have no doubt that you have been too.
I quit my jobs – yes you read that right. Emphasis on the s!
As we rolled in to 2020, I was a year and several months into being a Receptionist/Office Coordinator/Mess at British Airways. There were some fab people there and I made some great friends, but by February I was really sick of pouring coffee and setting out biscuits for other people. I spent years trying to get away from the hospitality industry (because people are horrible and my ankles are permanently damaged) to end up at the beginning again. And so, I handed in my notice with no plan.
Actually, that’s a lie.
My plan was to focus on this blog, travel as much as possible and feel a little free. Then the pandemic started to get worse and I panicked. I quickly realised that running a travel blog at that moment in time was a ridiculous idea. So, in my panic, I somehow landed an Executive Assistant position at an Accounting company. I had my first day there (which was only only 4 hours long) and then along came a pack up and go home order from the government.
I worked as an EA up until the end of August. If I’m honest (in so many words, I don’t want to get sued or a bad reference) it just wasn’t a great time. My skin grew thicker and the idea of running my travel blog full time grew, and I jumped into the great unknown and here we are now.
Still lacking motivation and inspiration, but I’ve taken the baby back now and it’s growing.
So what’s next?
I have managed to travel around the UK a little bit. I am classed as vulnerable (I have asthma) so I have been extra careful with hand sanitiser, masks and giving evil looks and passively aggressively tutting whenever someone enters my 2m space. I’ve gone to a few places with my partner and I’ve done a few day trips here and there. I’ve actually introduced a little more detail to my travel schedule on the right, so you can see what I’m up to.
The direction of the blog will not change.
Let me stress that even though I am doing my blog full time for now, I will not be gallivanting off for months at a time when it is safe to do so. I will still focus on solo travel and travelling within your annual leave allowance. I like to travel, but I like my home space a lot more.
What I will be doing though is speaking a little more personally on here. I’ve been speaking permanently positive (“Permapositive” as Christina @ HappyToWander calls it) as well as a little bit robotic. That’s not me, and that ultimately leads me to the path of disliking the blog. The content itself won’t change, but the voice will. If you like the tone of this post, you’ll like the rest. I’m also hoping to add some more of my face to the blog. I hope you don’t mind. Without it, it enhances the robotic vibe I’ve got going on. When (surprise surprise) I am actually a person and I did go there. Y’know?
The conclusion we’ve all been waiting for…
In conclusion, I am back, like the Terminator. I hope you’ll stick around.
